bhAvayE-aham               - I meditate upon
kusumAkara SObhita         - the one who is splendid in the spring (season of flowers),
SrI pura gEhaM             - the one whose abode is Tiruvarur,
kumbhaja guru guha nataM   - the one saluted by Agastya (the pitcher-born) and Guruguha,

samashTi caraNam
hasana jita tripuraM       - the one who conquered the Tripuras with a laugh,
ava nata mura haram        - the one saluted by Vishnu (slayer of Mura),
abja SEkharaM              - the one whose crown is the moon (born of the ocean),
karuNAkaraM                - the abode of compassion,
haram                      - the destroyer (of the universe),
bhasita-uddhULana bharaNaM - the one who wears sacred ash sprayed (on his body),
pannaga valaya-AbharaNaM   - the one who has snakes as bracelets and other ornaments,
asama-astra garva haraNaM  - the destroyer of the pride of Manmatha (the one with odd-numbered, i.e. five arrows),
aga rAja sutA ramaNam      - the delighter of Parvati, the daughter of the king of mountains.

Comments
  • This Kriti is in the second Vibhakti
  • The word ‘kusumAkara’ literally means a storehouse of flowers and so refers to the spring season. In the Bhagavad-geetha, Chapter 10, Krshna says ‘aham rtUnAM kusumAkarah’ (Among the seasons, I am spring). ‘kusumAkara’ could also mean garden, so the first line could also be interpreted as Tiruvarur which is glorious with many gardens. Since the Spring festival (Vasantotsava) in Tiruvarur is very important, the former meaning is given here.
